My approach and values

I aim to be an ally to your inner world, creating a space that feels spacious, loving, slow, and gentle. My style is often described as warm, authentic, curious, soothing, and playful.

My approach and values are influenced by the principles of The Hakomi Method:

  • Mindfulness begins with a shift from doing to being. I will assist you in bringing a gentle, non-judgmental state of awareness to your present moment experience, and together, we will receive the gift of your intuition.

  • Bringing unity into the session means that we acknowledge our shared humanity and interconnectedness, within all parts of ourselves, with each other, and with the world.

  • Having a non-violent approach means moving at the pace of trust. In our sessions, we will hold deep reverence and respect for the protectors and defenses you have developed throughout your lifetime. Rather than approaching these adaptations as problems to fix, we support them as intelligence key to your survival, bearing witness as they naturally begin to soften in their own time.

  • We’ll trust your process and timing, and that your body, mind and spirit know exactly how to heal. I will simply be there to provide safety, support, and a container for the unfolding to take place.

  • Acknowledging the dance between our minds, bodies, and spirits, opens up possibilities for more freedom and ease in our lives. In Hakomi, the gateway to healing is through the soma. As we slow down and explore sensations and impulses with gentleness and love, we invite your body to tell it’s story.

Highlight on psychedelic integration

Psychedelic experiences and other expanded states of consciousness such as breathwork, dance, meditation, and ceremony can be powerful catalysts for deep healing and lasting change.

Just as you would plan for any overseas adventure or train for a trek up a mountain, this type of work calls for thoughtful preparation. Together, we will build trust, clarify your intentions, cultivate a toolkit of inner and outer resources to support your journey, and deepen your connection with the wisdom of your body. Drawing on the Hakomi method, we will also gently bring awareness to both the light and shadow aspects of the unconscious, allowing insight, resilience, and transformation to begin to emerge.

After your return, the real work begins. Integration can be both a tender and exciting time, and is arguably the most important part of a psychedelic experience. In this critical window, research shows that our brains have a unique opportunity to form new neural pathways. In the weeks and months that follow, we will delve into the “felt sense” of your experience, bowing with reverence to the old beliefs systems and exploring and nurturing new possibilities for relating to the world.

Frequently asked questions

  • The Hakomi Method is a type of experiential psychotherapy originally developed by the renowned psychotherapist Ron Kurtz in the 1970s. Rooted in mindfulness and influenced by principles of Buddhism and Taoism, it invites a state of gentle awareness in which the body becomes a doorway to self-discovery. Through this process of “assisted self-study,” unconscious patterns emerge into consciousness, creating greater freedom and ease in our lives.

  • Hakomi differentiates itself from other forms of therapy and healing work through its pace and orientation. In a session, we often begin with a few minutes of guided meditation or breathing to arrive in the present moment. There’s an invitation to slow down, settle into the safety of now, drop into the body, feel your feelings, and discover what’s alive.

This shift from thinking to feeling is a cooperative venture. As the practitioner, my role is to support you in developing the capacity to observe your inner experience with curiosity and compassion. Many clients find it helpful to gently close their eyes and turn inward, staying with whatever arises in the moment.

What’s often new for people is the experience of exploring their inner world while staying connected with someone who is fully present and holding space. You share what you’re noticing, and together we follow the organic unfolding of your experience, deepening awareness and insight at a pace that feels right for you.

  • Einstein once said, “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” In Hakomi, we alter our consciousness by using mindfulness or simply noticing our experience without judgment. This creates a quality of conversation that draws from a much deeper place of awareness.

From this place of curiosity and expanded awareness, there will be invitations to do “little experiments in mindfulness.” The experiments will help us deepen into the unconscious and can illuminate treasure troves of hidden core beliefs, memories, and feelings. These trailheads can help light up old neural pathways and allow for new or “missing experiences.”

  • Hakomi is best suited for clients who are willing to get curious about studying their inner world or clients who have the willingness to learn. No prior experience with mindfulness or meditation is needed, although clients who have this experience may find it easier initially to drop more deeply into sessions.

  • There is no right way to "do Hakomi.” This work is not about getting it perfect; it’s about being present with whatever arises. Over time, we will build trust in our relationship and in the process itself. As we go, you'll deepen your capacity to stay with your experience, with support and without judgment. Simply being curious and willing to explore is more than enough.

  • While it would be an honor to witness your medical journey, I will not diagnose, prescribe for or treat your medical conditions during our work together. I welcome the fullness of your history - physical, emotional, and spiritual and encourage you to bring this into our work together if it feels right.

  • I am not a psychotherapist, so if my scope of practice does not fit your needs, I will provide appropriate referrals to other providers or modalities. Please see the "About Me" page for information about my background and training.

  • Sessions are $150 for 60 minutes.

I reserve a small number of sliding scale openings and welcome you to reach out if cost is a barrier.
